OK, since my last post my blog got hit by a WordPress vulnerability and got covered with spam. It’s now moved to a new server, upgraded to the current version, and the crap is all cleaned out. What a pain. Time to start posting again! S

Via Engadget: Sazo GPS tracker for nervous parents:
There’s apparently no end to the steady stream of devices that use some combination of GPS, RFID and cellphones to help nervous parents track their children. The latest, now on sale in the U.K., is the Sazo, a £100 GPS unit that sends location updates to its distributor’s server via GPRS.
Parents can retrieve data via a browser or get updates by SMS. There’s also a panic button that automatically sends a text message to parents, and a deluxe version includes a full-fledged cellphone. Sounds great. Until the kid loses it. Or spends too much time indoors, and falls off the satellite’s signal. Or the server gets hacked, letting anyone get in and retrieve the location data. While parents might like the idea of a GPS tracker, in the end, they may find that just giving the kid a cellphone (even a simplified one like the Firefly) is a heckuva lot simpler.

Instant Messaging Spam
Amazing! I just selected “Find a Chat” from the AOL Instant Messenger client running on my PC. I was taken to a list of popular chat groups. I selected one on computer technology and joined it. Ninety percent of the traffic was automated pitches for porn web sites. After about 30 seconds in the chat room, I started getting IM’s directly to my IM address with similar offers. My IM identity has been harvested! Even after leaving the chat room (I was there for less than a minute), I continued to get them. I can just picture getting porno pitch IM’s all day long in the middle of the office.
Well, I ended up setting my IM preference to only accept IM’s from people on my watch list. Hopefully this will blow over and I’ll be able to open it up again…but whew, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprized, but wow.

Rest and relaxation…
As of tomorrow afternoon, both the kids will be in summer camp. I’m off to the Villagio Inn & Spa in Yountville for 3 days of pampering, wining, dining, and hanging out with my honey. The salt scrub and massage are on Monday morning (after the leisurely breakfast)…

The Move
Well, deepdarksee.com, several other domains, and a bunch of user accounts have now been moved over from the RackSpace server to JohnCompanies (see earlier post). So far so good…JohnCompanies seems like a good choice. The high traffic sites move next week or so…over 1.5 million hits a day on Menstuff!
